Why Carbon Fiber Cars and Auto Parts Are Superior?
Hello everyone, Welcome to my live broadcasting room, This is Demi from JCsportline, nice to meet you guys again. In my previous video, I have introduced our factory to you, today I collected 4 questions most frequently ask by my customer.
1, Question one.
What’s the difference between 3K carbon fiber, forged carbon, and honeycomb carbon?
Recently, forged carbon and honeycomb carbon By the majority of customers love. 1)the 3K carbon fiber is like a twill weave, a well-regulated weave. 2) forged carbon, it’s like Small irregular fragments inside. 3) honeycomb carbon, I have one US customer like this very much, often ask me what our honeycomb looks like, today I can show you the details, because no matter normal carbon, forged carbon and honeycomb, they have their different size, shape is same, but their size is not 100% same, maybe some customer need more big weave size. Anyway, whatever you need, if we can purchase this kind of material in the market, then we can make it. For us, the production process is same.
2, Question two (干碳湿碳各一个产品,一个称)kilogram。point
What’s the difference between dry cabron and wet carbon?
wet carbon fiber gets its name from its glossy, “wet” appearance. In fact, the “wet” moniker refers to its manufacturing process, by which the carbon fiber is coated in liquid resin before being vacuum sealed to cure.
Typically, a dry carbon fiber cloth is placed into a mold which has been coated with resin. Then, another layer of resin is coated on top of the cloth. Then the cloth and resin are sealed into a vacuum. The vacuum’s pressure impregnates the resin into the cloth, basically encasing it within the resin and giving it the sturdy structure most people associate with carbon fiber. This process leaves the fiber with a glossy appearance, however this can be altered by using a matte lay-up or sandpapering.
Dry Carbon Fiber
Dry carbon fiber fibes name also comes from its manufacturing process. During manufacture, dry carbon fiber has its resin pre-impregnated, that is, literally built into the fiber. Since no resin is being directly applied, the fiber is “dry”.
Pre-impregnated fiber is called “pre-preg” in the carbon fiber industry. The pre-preg fiber is placed in an autoclave to cure at high pressure and heat, which removes impurities and strengthens the material. Because the resin is baked in rather than applied on top, the fiber generally comes out looking flat rather than glossy. However, this look can be altered by applying a glossy layer of gel coat.
Ok, next, let us see the diffenence.
COST
Wet: Less expensive – production requires less costly equipment
Dry: More expensive – prepreg fiber costs more to produce, and the need for an autoclave also
ramps up costs
STRENGTH
Wet: Weaker – the wet process has a greater potential for air bubbles and wavy fiber weaves, which reduces strength
Dry: Stronger – the autoclave process eliminates air bubbles and other impurities, strengthening it significantly
WEIGHT
Wet: Heavier – applying resin rather than pre-impregnating it results in a greater weight
Dry: Lighter – pre-preg fiber weighs up to 70% less
QUALITY
Wet: Lower – it’s less strong, heavier
Dry: Higher – it’s much stronger and much lighter
Hopefully that clears up some of the confusion on wet and dry carbon fiber. Remember, it’s not necessarily the appearance that defines “wet” and “dry”, but rather the process by which it was made.
Question 3.
So how to choose dry carbon and wet carbon.
It depends on your marketing requirements, if you are a brand love, dry carbon is your first choose. If your customer is online sales, and don’t understand dry carbon, wet carbon is your choose. Usually for customized customer,we will give dry carbon and wet carbon 2 project for choose.
Summary: Depending on your application you would choose the most cost-effective product, dry carbon is stronger and lighter than wet carbon but more expensive. If your requirement is for a structurally sound product it stands to reason that you have certain safety concerns as well. Therefore you would naturally choose to use dry carbon. If you are producing decorative or non-core components that need not be part of the structural strength equation, then wet carbon would be your main choice.
Question 4.
OK, How to choose dry carbon molds?
Because time reason, today I have no time to introduce our dry carbon molds variety. I will show you how to make, the process of dry carbon production.
What types of molds are available for pre-preg dry carbon?
There is a customer who wants to make the front lip in dry carbon, but the quantity is only 30sets, the customer wants to make high-quality dry carbon products with the lowest cost of molds.
In a normal way, the customer would be required with a stainless steel metal tool, but this kind of grinding tool is very expensive, a small part is less than $20,000, bigger one more than $100,000, obviously, this will do not be suitable for the small quantity.
After years of research, a material called high-temperature and high-pressure resistant value has emerged in the market, which is higher than the ordinary epoxy resin mold but much lower than steel molds, so it is used for small quantities, but this material also has certain disadvantages.
1) High-temperature epoxy resin mold: because it still belongs to the kind of resin, so after entering the hot press tank after high temperature and pressure molding, it is easy to deform.
This requires a strict inspection of the product size and repair of the molds with small defects after entering into the autoclave. which will delay the product delivery after repaired the molds.
Such molds can resist to high temperatures of 120 degrees, rather than stainless steel 180 degrees or higher, which will have a certain impact on the hardness of the product, but if it is not a structural function of the product, the hardness can also meet the standard
So if you are not so important on delivery time and product hardness, and the quantity is low, this high-temperature resin mold is the only choice for dry carbon products.
2)Aluminum(suitable for smaller high-precision products),
Precision requirements are not very high, such as some exterior parts, and suitable for compression mold machine and autoclave
but it is easy to have a rolled edge, as shown in the picture, aluminum is soft which can not resist big high pressure, which will cause rolled edge
And the intact aluminum mold looks like this.
3) Steel mold: which can fit for any machine, without any problem for defects and a long lifetime without rolled edge because of the steel is very hard which can resist the high temperature and high pressure but the price is twice higher than aluminum .
Jcsportline R&D team researched more than 10 years for value assessment based on customer orders and provide the best solution for them.
